On the resolvability of closely spaced targets using a colocated MIMO radar

Abstract

The resolvability of two closely spaced targets is an important performance measure in a MIMO radar problem. In this paper, we investigate the minimum signal-to-noise ratio, commonly referred to as the signal-to-noise ratio threshold, required to resolve a known target from an unknown target using a colocated MIMO radar. Toward this goal, we conduct a generalized likelihood ratio test w.r.t. the separation of direction of arrivals. Our analytic expressions reveal some insightful properties and numerical examples are provided to corroborate the proposed theoretical analysis.
