Current Controller for Switched Reluctance Motors Using Pole Placement Approach

Abstract

This paper presents a design method of a current controller for switched reluctance motors (SRM). The design is carried using pole placement approach which allows taking into consideration the time delays in the open loop transfer function. Also, the tracking dynamics of the controller are enhanced through the integration of a feedforward component. The implementation of an anti-wind up strategy for managing intervals of control signal saturation is then presented. A comparison with a gain-scheduling PI controller reveals a faster response as well as a considerable torque gain at mid-range speeds.
